at the end we all embrace one or the other: accusations of our sins or the grace that redeems anything and everything.

this is something i have been wrestling with recently… jesus teaches us

to be salt and light (matthew 5:13)

not to judge those outside of the church but only those within(1 cor. 5:12)

to love one another (john 13:34)

but what does this look like on a day to day basis. how do i show those who are not in love with jesus what is right and what is wrong without being judgmental? how do i live and breath out the gospel without compromising the message of jesus for the fear of condemning others, whom i have no business condemning? i am really curious as to what you guys think. comment away.

it’s been a while i feel i have something worthy of sharing with you guys, but after what i saw jesus did/is doing in our family from last night, it makes me excited to be part of his mission here in columbia. we are currently in the middle of a series called |giv| at midtown. we are taking time to examine what scripture teaches us about what it means to give thanks, to give to others who are in need, and the reasons why we give. last night dustin challenged and reminded us of how blessed we are, how much we have, and how much stuff we don’t need. he then challenged us to give away our shoes for those who are in need of it in columbia. i saw people wrestled with the idea of giving up their shoes in the middle of a winter night, and then a light goes off in their heads – that jesus is worth it, that he is worth so much more than these pair of shoes. i witnessed girls who gave away their expensive boots in tears – not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy because they remembered how amazing is our savior. i witnessed moms who walked their child down the aisle to give their shoes away, teaching them early on that jesus is worth more than anything in this world. i witnessed the beauty of the heart brokeness when we forgot how good is our savior, i witnessed the joy of founding that goodness once again.

why is it that we confess with our mouths that jesus is the best thing for us now and forever… but we keep looking back longing for the things in the past… why do i do that?…

one fear i have for myself and all of the churches in the world is that we become so used and accustomed to the gospel… the story of how our savior came to save us… that we become so jaded and  so calloused to the story that it no longer have any meaning to us… the suffering and death of our savior for our sins has lost its meaning… when was the last time you broke down on your knees and just from the depths of your heart and soul cried out and thanked jesus for what he has gone through and done for you… when was the last time i’ve done that for myself?… 

i was over at one of the guys in my life group – dean’s  house on wednesday just hanging out along with dustin. we talked about the upcoming service we have at midtown on sunday (7.13.08)… dustin started to talk about the new song we were going to do and how that song represented the gospel… at that time i didn’t pay too much attention to it, i figured, that is nothing out of the norm… it’s just the gospel… he started playing the song from his laptop and told us to pay attention to the lyrics… when the song was over… i was left breathless… i was again reminded of how precious is the gospel… of the passionate response we should have for the one that gave it all… so here it is… give it a listen…

i pray that we don’t lose sight of the gospel that we remember we don’t deserve this love and the beauty of the story of how we are set free… rescued… the story of our savior who went through torment and death so we may know him… the story of our savior king… the story of the passion our god has for us…
