it leaves me breathless…

one fear i have for myself and all of the churches in the world is that we become so used and accustomed to the gospel… the story of how our savior came to save us… that we become so jaded and  so calloused to the story that it no longer have any meaning to us… the suffering and death of our savior for our sins has lost its meaning… when was the last time you broke down on your knees and just from the depths of your heart and soul cried out and thanked jesus for what he has gone through and done for you… when was the last time i’ve done that for myself?…

i was over at one of the guys in my life group – dean’s  house on wednesday just hanging out along with dustin. we talked about the upcoming service we have at midtown on sunday (7.13.08)… dustin started to talk about the new song we were going to do and how that song represented the gospel… at that time i didn’t pay too much attention to it, i figured, that is nothing out of the norm… it’s just the gospel… he started playing the song from his laptop and told us to pay attention to the lyrics… when the song was over… i was left breathless… i was again reminded of how precious is the gospel… of the passionate response we should have for the one that gave it all… so here it is… give it a listen…

to know your name – hillsong

the precious blood of jesus christ redeems,
forgiven i’m alive, restored set free.
your majesty resides inside of me,
forever i believe. forever i believe.
arrested by your truth and righteousness
your grace has overwhelmed my brokenness
convicted by your spirit, led by your word
your love will never fail
your love will never fail
‘cause i know you gave, the world your only son for us to
know your name, to live within the saviours love and he took my place,

knowing he’d be crucified and you loved.. you loved, a people undeserving

i have been set free!… so long i have been weighed down by my own mistakes and sin… and now that weight is gone… gone by the love that came and rescued me… i have been set free by a love that gave it all…  i can now call that love mine and get to know that love… the love that leaves me breathless… the love that gives meaning to my life… the love that breaks me apart and yet completes me whole…

i pray that we don’t lose sight of the gospel that we remember we don’t deserve this love and the beauty of the story of how we are set free… rescued… the story of our savior who went through torment and death so we may know him… the story of our savior king… the story of the passion our god has for us…

one love,

jeff
